Professional Hardwood Floors in Raynham, Massachusetts
Q: How long will the refinishing process take?
A: Each job is different. A lot has to do with the old finish we have to sand off your floor. Sometimes the finish will come off easy and other times it is much harder to get off, which will add time to the job. Most jobs measuring 700 to 1000 sq. ft. can be sanded with one or possibly two coats applied in one day. The average job this size, depending on the amount of coats that your job calls for, will take from start to finish coat, 2 to 4 days.
Q: Can the floor be walked on in-between coats.
A: Yes. If you are staying at the home during the sanding process, once the coat has dried you can walk on it. If, for some reason, you think the floor is dry and happen to step in a tacky area, try to remember where that area is and bring it to our attention when we come back for the next coat so we can make sure to get out the footprint. Remember, this does not apply to the finish coat, only the base coats can be walked on, and you must stay off the finish coat for at least 24 hours.
Q: How long will it take for the finish to dry?
A: Most of our finished work will dry within 7 to 10 hours.
Q: How long before we can walk on the floor after the finish coat is applied?
A: We recommend that you stay off the floor for at least 24 hours, if you can stay off the floor longer than that, great, but no less than 24 hours.
Q: Does the room have to be empty to do this work?
A: Yes, the room must be empty for us to do the floor.
Q: Will you move the furniture?
A: Yes and no. We will help you move a piece or two of the furniture if needed and with advance notice, however we will not and do not have the time to pack up the small stuff so please have the China Cabinet empty if you need help moving it.
If you have several rooms or a whole house that is being done, there are several moving companies that will come and move out your furniture and either store it on or off site. After the work is complete and the finish has had ample time to cure they bring the furniture back in for you. You will need to call the different companies for pricing.
Q: Will there be any mess when you are done?
A: We use a dust containment system which is a large powerful vacuum cleaner on steroids designed to prevent dust in your home, the dust is so minimal that we can sand the floor without dust protection.
Q: How long will the finish last?
A: The finish can last for years if properly taken care of. I have clients with finishes that are over 20 years old that are still gleaming. The answer is you can routine a finish in a month or still be happy with it 20 plus years later.
Q: I have an 80 pound dog with long nails, will the finish scratch?
A: Not only will the dogs nails scratch the finish, they will more than likely penetrate the wood which causes a dent-like scratch. Best possible thing to do is keep the dogs nails cut. This will help prevent damage to the finish or wood floor itself. However, there is no damage a dog can do with their nails that cannot be sanded out in the future.
Q: My husband or wife walks on the floor with their golf shoes, should I get rid of them before I sand the floor?
A: No, just make them take their shoes off before walking on the floor.
Q: How long will the recoating process take?
A: We can recoat most floors in a few hours, but you will need to stay off the new finish for at least 24 hours.
Q: I want to stain my floor in a color. Will that add time to the overall job?
A: Yes, adding a stain color to the floor will add time to the job if done correctly. (If there is a flooring contractor telling you he can do a stain job in the same amount of time it takes to do a natural finish, buyer beware). First, the sanding process for staining takes much longer since the floor has to be perfect. Then after applying the stain, the stain must dry for 24 hours before the first coat can be applied. Staining a floor can add 1 or possible 2 days to the overall job.
Q: Will you start my job and finish in a timely manner?
A: Yes, when we start your job we have already placed you in our schedule for the sanding and however many coats you are getting.
Q: Is it possible that the schedule can change and my job will not be completed on time?
A: Yes, we never over book on purpose. However, we may fall behind if someone adds a room to their job or we are tearing up carpeting and find that there are repairs that are needed before we can sand the floors. There is also the possibility of illness, auto failure, bad weather, etc.
If you have a problem that forces us to alter our schedule, we always push off the jobs that we have not started; jobs in progress always take priority. We understand the inconvenience of having your house turned upside down while your floors are done. Typically, any delay will only change the time line by one or two days.
